This spring my daughter came to me asking if I would make her a “cool” summer top… It had to be black, have a halter neck and a lace edge at the bottom, and if possible also beads…
Well, sure 🙂 But let’s have a look first what it is she really wanted. Honestly I would rather purchase it if it’s a simple top instead of making it myself. But a “quick” browse on the Internet showed me all kinds of tops, no exact pattern or model, so we started to make our own design, sketching and picking out the things she definately wanted. My daughter has a very distinctive taste and knows exactly what she wants and that’s a big advantage when working on a piece in this way.
I had leftovers of a cotton yarn: DROPS Loves You #7 . I purchased it last year to make shorts, but unfortuneately I flogged it very fast, so this was the right choice for her top.
To my relief I only had to re-do a couple of things and the piece was actually quite easy and fast to make once I got started. My daughter is also happy with the result and it looks great on her (I am happy I don’t have to wear it!). We did add a piece of satin fabric to the inside after finishing, to make it less see-through.
I have made a quick description of the top, so if you want to make it too, you can have a go. Please note that it’s only one-size (12 years / 158 cm), but I think it’s pretty easy to adapt. You can download the pattern here.
Enjoy and I would love to hear what you think of it.
